POP ART LAYERED COLLAGES
Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns inspired students to create collages based
on everyday objects and icons.
This collage titled "Signs" by Robert Rauschenberg emphasizes the use of color, texture, direction, emphasis and symbolism. It displays the uproar of the 1960's with images of Martin Luther King
Jr., Vietnam War, Janis Joplin, Robert Kennedy and civil unrest.
Based on works by POP artist Robert Rauschenber and Jasper Johns, students were to create their own original works of art through the use of layered collages. From a distance these works looked like
abstractions, but by being close up, the viewer had a intimate conversation with the piece. All the images were unified by color, pattern, theme and told a visual story.

each other's work and discuss their process.
